Fashionista trying to get to new heights? Put down those high heels!
I think there are only two benefits to wearing high heels. 1. Looking good (aesthetic reasons) 2. A recent study suggested that wearing high heels may improve the tone of a woman's pelvic floor. On the other hand, there are tons of reasons against wearing them. They can cause foot pain, creat foot deformities, including hammertoes and bunions, and cause an unsteady gait. Wearing these high shoes can also shorten the wearer's stride, render the wearer unable to run, and altered forces at the knee caused by walking in high-heels may predispose to degenerative changes in the knee joint. Women who wear high heels frequently have a higher incidence of degenerative joint disease on the knees. This is because they cause a decrease in the normal rotation of the foot which puts more rotation stress on the knee. If you wear high heels you could also experience medical problems associated with the foot and the achilles tendon.
