What is Koga?

Koga is two systems of techniques combined together that reflect real proven fitness concepts. Yoga, which has been around for hundreds of years and exercise, which has been around for just as long (in one form or another) have both been credible outlets for us as human beings. Koga is much more than stretching and kicking. No matter what your fitness level, Koga can be a challenging exercise program that builds superior strength and endurance. Koga involves a level of mental and physical concentration that results in a much greater flexibility, increased muscle toning and shaping, refined balance, improved cardiovascular function, increased lung capacity and finally a HUGE decrease in overall body fat.
Koga taps into your inner power, connecting your body with your mind. It is easy to fall into a pattern of associating fitness with the body alone. We run, do aerobics, dance and workout all for our bodies. What does your mind have to do with it. The Kogi will soon see the absurdity of this notion. Body and mind are one and although they become isolated and dissociated from each other, Koga brings them back together where they belong. Everything works better when all the circuits are connected. Your mind can boost your phyical performance to new heights and control over your body is training for control over your mind!
Everyone knows that lifting heavy weights takes strength. However, balancing in the form of Asana and Kickboxing takes strength too. Koga strength training is a belnd of isometric and plyometric movements. Muscles are trained in the opposition to each other or to an immovable object. This is just the opposite of what we have been taught in the aerobic training of the past. The leg warmers are gone folks! Time to experience what exercise enthusiasts, professional athletes, actors, models and people from ALL walks of life have been waiting for. "THE BEST OF TWO FITNESS WORLDS COME TOGETHER IN ONE GREAT WORKOUT!

Yogalates?

Guess what you get when you combine the practice of yoga with Pilates. You get "Yogalates"! Practioners often use Hatha yoga exercises, but Tibetan, Taoist or other forms of yoga can also be incorporated. Yogalates is designed to strengthen both the mind and the body through the combination of poses and exercises. Although purists of both practices have made arguments against it, many love the blending of the two.
Instructions:
1. Consult with your doctor to make sure you are physically able to participate in an exercise program. While beginners should always find out about any medical issues before starting, exercise veterans may want to have some baseline tests done. This way you can see how yogalates alone or in combination with other exercise changes your body.
2. Study the basics of Yoga and Pilates. Knowing about both practices can help you decide if yogalates is something you'll enjoy or not and can help you know how to blend the two. Getting the basics down also helps you feel more comfortable in a group setting.
3. Find a yogalates class in your gym or community center. Many places are now offering yogalates classes because they are so popular. The best way to see if you like the practice is to try it. Look for a class that's free or that allows you to pay for only a few sessions at first.
4. Make sure your instructor has some yoga or Pilates certification. This means they have gone through training and are qualified to teach. Ideally, your instructor would be trained in both methods.
5. Bring a towel or mat to class to protect your spine and another towel you can roll up for exercises if needed. Depending on where you're attending classes, you may need to bring other equipment like a band or yoga blocks. Check with your instructor or the location to see if you'll need anything; many places have everything you need already there.
6. Talk to your instructor about any concerns or problems you might be having. Your instructor can help you modify any poses or exercises you have difficulty with and can correct you form if needed. Studies show that students who talk to their instructors get more out of there workouts so don't be afraid to approach her.

Newest Anti-Aging Ingredients(you should be using, if your over 50)

1. Sirtuins: These protein enzymes help repair cell damage and so far, are the only ingredients known to make cells live longer in the lab. They may ramp up collagen production, too.
2. Pro-xylane: This mega-moisturizer is a long-lasting synthetic form of hyaluronic acid that attracts water to cells and holds up to 1,000 times its volume-keeping skin plump and making lines less apparent. It also increases the communication between cells (a function that normally declines with age), which leads to the production of more wrinkle-fighting, skin-firming collagen.
3. Growth Factors: They sound like part of the stimulus plan, but growth factors are actually proteins and hormones that instruct cells to perform tasks like building collagen and increasing formation of blood vessels. A study in the "Journal of Drugs in Dermatology" showed that they substantially reduce wrinkles around the eyes and the mouth.
4. Niacinamide: A naturally occurring form of vitamin B3, niacinamide kicks various into high gear to repair cell DNA. And while everyone's DNA fixes itself, niacinamide seems to make the process happen faster--like a couple of cocktails on a first date. In addition to fighting sun damage, it may have anti-cancer properties.
5. Peptides: Some peptides are believed to shrink bags under the eyes by improving lymphatic circulation, some relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, and others rev up collagen to firm skin.
6. Alpha Lipoic Acid: Free radicals get their butts kicked by alpha lipoic acid(ALA), one of the most capable antioxidants around. But ALA does something that its antioxidant brethren don't--it is both fat-and water-soluble, meaning it can work inside the cell and and in the cell membrane to achieve some serious anti-aging effects. In one study in the "British Journal of Dermatology", it significantly reduced wrinkles and smoothed skin--by about 50 percent--in middle-aged women.
7. Lactobacillus: A probiotic, lactobacillus maintains the skin's protective balance of moisture and bacteria--kind of what health-food-store yogurt does for your gut. On your face, it plays a part in speeding up the healing process--especially after peels and other procedures that strip the skin of healthy bacteria.

8. Phloretin: Extracted from apples, phloretin is an antioxidant. And when it's combined with vitamin c and ferulic acid, it's been shown to penetrate the skin and interfere with the formation of brown spots and wrinkles. It also protects against DNA changes that lead to some nonmelanoma skin cancers.
9. Isotretinoin: The main ingredient in Accutane, isotretinoin is an oral retinoid that's an established, respected acne-fighter. What's new is the low-dose pills (20 mg), which can improve wrinkles, skin tone, and hyperpigmentation. Best of all, its effects may last for a few years.
10. Aminoglycine: In hair-color formulas, Amino-glycine can change hair's pigment (including grays) without compromising its keratin layer (unlike ammonia). The result? Hair doesn't end up dull and damaged after the process. Another plus: It works in just 10 minutes, as opposed to the usual 20.
11. Polyfluoroesters: These are, very simply, a godsend for frizz sufferers. Unlike silicone, they tame fuzz without weighing hair down; instead of sitting on top of the hair, they plug the gaps in each strand's cuticle, preventing moisture from penetrating the shaft. They work especially well on aging hair, which can become limp and brittle (and therefore more prone to breakage and frazzled ends) with time.
Fashionista trying to get to new heights? Put down those high heels!
I think there are only two benefits to wearing high heels. 1. Looking good (aesthetic reasons) 2. A recent study suggested that wearing high heels may improve the tone of a woman's pelvic floor. On the other hand, there are tons of reasons against wearing them. They can cause foot pain, creat foot deformities, including hammertoes and bunions, and cause an unsteady gait. Wearing these high shoes can also shorten the wearer's stride, render the wearer unable to run, and altered forces at the knee caused by walking in high-heels may predispose to degenerative changes in the knee joint. Women who wear high heels frequently have a higher incidence of degenerative joint disease on the knees. This is because they cause a decrease in the normal rotation of the foot which puts more rotation stress on the knee. If you wear high heels you could also experience medical problems associated with the foot and the achilles tendon.
